Special Delivery for Finery

Woon Productions presents the fifth episode in our series titled, Special Delivery, documenting the interesting subjects from our Woon community who contribute to make Woon what it is today.

In this episode, we visit our friend and founder of Finery, Greg Sato, at Finery’s Downtown LA office and Greg’s home in Silverlake. Finery is a Los Angeles-based design and manufacturing studio dedicated to elevating the uniform to a craft. It was a blast getting to learn about their philosophy and their dedication to involving the Los Angeles community.

I was introduced to Greg through my cousin, Bianca. When Greg asked if we wanted to do a collaboration, the first thing I said was that I wanted a red checkered work shirt. We couldn't find any dead stock red check patterns, so we launched our first Work Shirt with dead stock blue and white stripes to much success. This time around, Greg decided to get some fabric custom printed in red checks, just for us and this collaboration.

Our newest Woon Work Shirt is a button up camp collar shirt made from a medium-weight twill with custom printed red and white checks. It features 3 front patch pockets (for all your storage needs), front chest screen printed ‘Woon’ logo and back screen printed ‘Woon’ Chinese character meaning ‘bowl’ in Cantonese.

Every week, Mama Fong comes in to Woon to make hundreds of pork and veggie dumplings. We call them, Mama Fong’s Fortunate Frozen Dumplings. In Chinese, the number “8” sounds like the word for “fortune”. So, we sell 8 dumplings for $8 with an 8 ball sticker, all for good fortune. One day we’ll serve them freshly cooked at Woon, but until then, you can purchase them frozen from Woon, Wine & Eggs, Sara’s Market, and Sightglass Marketplace.

Shopping w/ Mama Fong

Woon Productions presents Shopping with Mama Fong. We spent the day at a few different markets in San Gabriel Valley that I frequented growing up. We got kicked out of one. We kept trying to play it cool, but the security guard said he was watching us on the camera and followed us around the entire store and finally told us to get out. Mama Fong was pretty embarrassed pissed at us. We ended the day eating some Killer Noodle, but it was too spicy to document it.
